When the “render” does not match reality

Prepare yourself for derision, as I used the loathed “render” in lieu of the correct term “rendering.” Who decided to drop the “ing”? When did that happen? (Much like, when did Mötley Crüe become classic rock?)

The Texas Rangers have built a $1.1 billion ballpark. The rendering conveyed more of a half-billion dollar ball park feel. The reality is a giant big-box store. As The Architect’s Newspaper notes, critics were merciless.
