SCI-Arc ruckus shines light on exploitative labor practices in architecture

During a SCI-Arc panel discussion on practice, students were told they needed to work long hours for low or even no pay. Students attending that session did not react favorably, rightly so. During the ensuing fallout, two SCI-Arc faculty members were placed on leave for allegedly mistreating interns and scholarship candidates.

Apparently, the old saw “power corrupts” holds true in all situations, including so-called “counter-cultural” institutions such as SCI-Arc.
